Star Professional Driving School is a State of Michigan certified testing and training facility. Our C.D.L. examiners and driver trainers are trained and certified by the State of Michigan, as well. They are required to attend an annual examiner refresher course required by the State of Michigan. All of our instructors and/or examiners have a minimum of five years professional driving experience.

Driver Training

Star Professional Driving School offers a one on one training opportunity for people that want to obtain a commercial driver's license. We provide the training that is necessary to learn how to drive defensively and professionally a semi tractor trailer, straight truck, school or passenger bus.

The training classes consists of two people, the individual and the instructor. The instructor helps the individual learn the three stages of the CDL skills test, including the pre-trip inspection, the basic control skills exercises, and professional driving techniques. With this program, you and/or your drivers get hands-on knowledge of the equipment and how to handle the equipment safely and professionally. We will not do any more or any less than what it takes to fully train you and/or your drivers to drive safely and professionally. We conduct two, three, or four hour sessions per day depending on your schedules. Our trainers can also come to your place of business to do the training if space and time permits. The actual CDL skills test has to done at one of our State of Michigan certified sites. If you need to use one of our vehicles, the usage charge is based on the type of vehicle you need. All usage rates includes the vehicle(s), mileage, fuel, insurance and taxes.

Driver Testing

Star Truck Rentals, Inc. is certified by the State of Michigan as a Third Party Tester for Commercial Driver's License. The test itself consists of a thorough pre-trip inspection, four basic control skills exercises and an on the road driving evaluation. A driver must have three pieces of information with them when they arrive for their appointment to be tested: a Michigan Temporary Instructional Permit that issued by and at the Secretary of State office, a valid D.O.T. Medical Card and a Michigan Photo Driver's License (either Chauffeur's of Operator's). We are currently authorized by the State to conduct tests at the following Star Truck Rentals, Inc. locations:

• Kalamazoo, Michigan
• Lansing, Michigan
• Flint, Michigan
• Cadillac, Michigan
• Traverse City, Michigan
• Muskegon, Michigan

D.O.T. Road Testing

We also offer testing for individuals that already possess their commercial driver's license. One of our examiners will evaluate the individual to see if they can perform all of the required functions of a professional commercial driver. This helps companies find out if the prospective driver that they are looking at is qualified to drive their equipment in a safe and responsible manner. Individuals interested in having a D.O.T. Road Test must have a valid Commercial Driver's License and a current D.O.T. Medical Card.
